Having personally built three custom homes in Islamorada, Karan also possesses a firsthand understanding of the building requirements, permitting process, flood regulations, and construction challenges unique to the Florida Keys. A native Floridian, Karan was born and raised in Miami before marrying a fifth-generation Florida Keys native on the beach at the iconic Cheeca Lodge in Islamorada. Together they raised their two children in the Florida Keys public school system before both attended Karan’s alma mater, the University of Florida, consistently ranked among the nation's top public universities by U.S. News & World Report.
